By the time I am a teacher, all my students will have been exposed to some type of technology. Technological advancements are growing rapidly and will continue to grow for the rest of our lives. In order to successfully teach digital natives, it is important for teachers to adapt to the current world. If students learn best through technology, such as Smartboards, iPads and podcasts, then I will have to incorporate that into my teaching methods. I think it is crucial that children do not spend their whole life on the computer because it can result in having a dependency for online sources rather than using their own brains, so I will still want to use traditional methods as well; doing some things involving a computer or online programs will be beneficial for the students who are used to that type of environment because they will get a mixture of both and it will hopefully keep them engaged.
Reflection
The research findings in "Generation Next" and "Internet and American Life" were great examples of how technology is affecting our world. Students are so interested in Social Networking, games, phones, iPods, etc. that they tend to pay more attention to those types of things than they do school. So much recreational computer time affects grades so it is important as a teacher to make sure you're not feeding that habit by giving all online assessments. Like I previously stated, a mixture of both is the most beneficial way to teach digital natives.
